MANILA, PHILIPPINES, 6 April 2018 – Nat Geo Earth Day Run 2018, one of the most awaited and well-attended running events in the country every year, is slated for April 22, at the SM Mall of Asia Grounds. Now on its 9th year, the Nat Geo Earth Day Run reinforces its commitment to preserving the planet by calling all “Eco Warriors” to be part of the exciting race which will coincide with the celebration of the International Earth Day.

Since its inception, the Nat Geo Earth Day Run has been attracting thousands of individuals across Asia who have pledged to save the planet. In the Philippines, National Geographic is looking to see 15,000 runners across the 3K, 5K, 10K, and 21K categories.

Following its success in the previous years, Nat Geo Earth Day Run 2018 together with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Philippines, will partner again for the 6th time to officially commence the #NotPlastic campaign, which will tackle the country’s issue on single-use plastics that pollute oceans and threaten marine biodiversity.

“The Philippines has been identified as the third highest plastic polluter in the world. In response to this, the two organizations aim to increase awareness on plastic waste and push programs that focus on plastic waste management by utilizing the proceeds of the highly-anticipated annual run for the environment.” Said – Jose Angelito Palma, WWF President & CEO.

New Race, New Journey
Nat Geo Earth Day Run 2018 will present a lineup of exciting and meaningful activities participants can join. This year’s edition includes the Fun Run under the new 3K race category that encourages more Eco Warriors to participate and champion the environmental causes they believe in.

Elite runners registered in the 21K category can join a series of running clinics where experts will share warm-up and cool-down lessons, hydration and post-run exercises that will help runners prepare for the race. The running clinics will take place on March 5 and 7 and April 9 and 11 at Track 30th at Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.

Registered runners will be able to receive a singlet, race bib, timing chip, water bottle and towel.

21K race finishers will receive a finisher’s medal and a finisher’s shirt, while 10K finishers will receive a finisher’s medal.

Interested participants can log onto the Nat Geo Earth Day Run website (http://www.natgeoearthdayrun.com/). Offline registration is available starting March 17 at authorized booths located at SM MoA, SM Aura, and SM the Block.

Registration fee for the 3K category is Php 750.00, 5K category is Php 850.00, 10K category is Php 950.00, and 21K is Php1, 400.00.

The gun start for participants of the 21K run is at 3:30AM, 10K is at 4:00AM, 5K is at 5:30AM, and 3K is at 6:00AM.

It was a major success, with over 10,000 participants in the first ever “Hello Kitty Run” event in the Philippines.

Tokyo Gets Co., Ltd., a Japan-based entertainment agency, through its local affiliate Ten:22 Business Solutions, first brought the “Hello Kitty Run Manila” last October 21 2017 at the SM By The Bay, SM Mall of Asia.

The first Hello Kitty fun run was held in Bangkok in February 2016, and was also brought by Tokyo Gets to other Asian countries such as Singapore, China, Indonesia and Vietnam.

Manila, Philippines, 13 July 2017 – The National MILO Marathon, the country’s most accessible national race, today announced the official opening of its 41st season. The first of the 16 races is set to kick-off in Urdaneta City, Pangasinan on July 16. With new features and race locations added for the fresh cycle ahead, MILO expects to see around 200,000 participants from across the country compete in 3km, 5km, 10km, 21km, and 42km distance categories.

The National MILO Marathon has long been energizing and inspiring champions for over 40 years and, as such, has been attracting runners of all kinds, from children, rookies, veterans, friends, and families from all over the country and the world. Centered on the theme “Magsama-sama, Tumakbo, Matuto”, this season is driven by values such as discipline, resilience, and determination, which runners can take with them in their journey in life.

“In the National MILO Marathon, we see people from all walks of life who come to run, to learn, and to live. This year, we shine the spotlight on the runners who are learning along the way and taking hese lessons beyond the finish line to shape their lives,” said Robbie De Vera, MILO Philippines Sports Executive.

New roads, new features

Three new areas, Urdaneta, Laoag and Roxas cities, are added in this year’s 16-leg tourney. The additional locations will provide runners with new and exciting challenges, showcasing the great running experience the National MILO Marathon is known for.

“We at MILO make it a mission to engage more Filipinos in adapting active and healthy lifestyles, and that is what the National MILO Marathon is all about. By adding more key cities, we will be able to reach more champions and hopefully inspire them to achieve new heights, be it in sports or in life. We look forward to seeing our champions!” added De Vera.

Following the success of the Iloilo finale last year, the National MILO Marathon will be staging its final race in Cebu City on December 3rd. This is the second time for Visayas to host the much-anticipated culminating event, and the third time to be held outside of Metro Manila. “We are excited to be fielding the National Finals in Cebu, where the sporting landscape is more invigorating than ever,” said Ricky Ballesteros, Organizer of the National MILO Marathon National Finals. “Our team is on its way to prepare for the biggest race of the season, so expect for this year’s finale to be grander and bolder.”

To encourage runners to celebrate their victories, MILO will debut the new Age Group Category in the National Finals. The Age Group Category is an added feature in the 21K and 42K distance races, that lets participants track and compare their performance with other runners in similar age groups. The new feature intends to motivate runners in reaching their personal goals and attract more contenders to the higher categories.

More than a staunch advocate of Philippine sports and Filipino athletes, the National MILO Marathon is also a platform that empowers children nationwide. For the past 7 years, the National MILO Marathon’s Help Give Shoes advocacy, in partnership with Department of Education, has inspired 70,000 aspiring athletes to fulfill their dreams by donating brand new pairs of running shoes. This year, the Help Give Shoes advocacy will be donating 5,000 pairs to underprivileged school children.

The series will start in Urdaneta on July 16, which expects around 10,000 runners. Following the pilot race, the National MILO Marathon will continue in Laoag (July 23), Metro Manila (July 30), Angeles (August 6), Tarlac (August 13), Naga (August 27), Lucena (September 03),  Lipa (September 10), Tagbilaran (September 24), Roxas (October 1), Iloilo (October 8), General Santos (October 15),  Davao (October 22), Butuan (November 12), and Cagayan De Oro (November 19). The National Finals in Cebu City will be on December 3.

The 41st National MILO Marathon is endorsed by the Philippine Sports Commission, Philippine Olympic Committee, Department of Education, the Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association, and the International Association of Athletics Federations – Association of International Marathons and Distance Races. The National MILO Marathon is in partnership with Salonpas, and supported by Garmin, Hisense, Manila Bulletin, Maynilad and Walter Mart Supermarket.

It won’t be a dog-day-afternoon, when dog enthusiasts and owners alike bask in the splendor of summer at Camp Aguinaldo in the second edition of Run for Aspins on May 6, 2017.

While the race continues to raise awareness on responsible pethood and pet adoption from Philippine Animal Rescue Team (PART), a significant part of the event will focus on dogs’ “other” purpose in life. We know that aside from being great pets and companions, dogs can be trained to become formidable soldiers, especially in the area of security and surveillance, peace and order and even extreme military operations.
Some K9 Units of the AFP have started to adopt aspins (mixed or unknown breed) because they have been found to be easy to train and maintain, compared to some purebred canines. Therefore “aspins” is no longer just your average asong kalye, but can become purposeful military working dogs.

The AFP-GHQ (in Camp Aguinaldo), in cooperation with counterpart K9 Units within the armed forces, will be holding a K9 Mini-Olympics and Exhibition again within this year’s race. The K9 display of talent will show the general public how K9s are trained to be part of the country’s line of defense. In addition, this will also demonstrate solidarity within the ranks, towards the direction and mandate of an institutionalized ARMED FORCES.

As in the 1st edition, registrants can either run solo on 10K or 5M distances, or choose a 2KM or 600M distance if they want to participate with their dogs.

National Geographic celebrates 8 years of environmental advocacy with Earth Day Run 2017

April 23, 2017 marks another of raising the public’s consciousness about environmental issues and health and fitness for National Geographic, which celebrates its eighth straight year of holding Earth Day Run. Presented by the channel and its partners Cherifer Premium and World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF), Earth Day Run 2017 aims to continue the tradition of being one of the biggest running events in the country, expecting scores of running enthusiasts and Eco Warriors to register and run for the environment. The event will be held not only in Manila but simultaneously in the cities of Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore and Taichung, an initiative that was adopted last year and effectively spread the vision and advocacy of Earth Day Run across Asia.

At Earth Day Run 2017, National Geographic will be celebrating eight years of social awareness through fitness with special program features using the hashtag #8withEDR. With the hopes of mobilizing all the Eco Warriors of previous Earth Day Runs, this year’s event welcomes all previously registered participants with VIP treatment and special loyalty perks to be enjoyed on the day of the run. Participants from previous Earth Day Runs will be given priority placement in front of the starting line at the beginning of the race and can claim their loot bags and finisher shirt at a special express booth. They can also make use of a special warm-up and cool down tent before and after the race to condition themselves and recover in comfort.

This year’s new participants can also join in the celebrations for Earth Day Run’s eighth anniversary by visiting the 8 Years of EDR Gallery at the race village and learning about what the event has accomplished over the years, including the environmental and social initiatives it has benefited with the help of its registered runners. Visitors to the gallery will learn how their participation at Earth Day Run has made a significant impact on certain communities in the Philippines as well as how their actions as individuals can affect the environment.

Earth Day Run 2017 in Manila will be held at the SM Mall of Asia grounds, where participants can join 5K, 10K, 21K and 42K categories. The event encourages and welcomes all types of Eco Warriors to take part, from fun-runners of all ages to the serious marathon runners who regularly compete. This year, Earth Day Run will also be sporting new features for its runners. As a special treat, all race kits will come with LED shoelaces, serving as a badge of pride and as a safety precaution for Eco Warriors running at night or before sunrise.
