It’s a great story…it all started in Kona….back in 1983. A woman by the name of Crystal Nylin used to hand-make her own running clothes. When the Ironman moved to Kona, Crystal noticed that the athletes competing in Ironman needed something more functional to race in. In other words, a solution to avoid having to use transition as “changing areas.”

She began sewing pads into run shorts, experimenting with swim fabrics, attaching run singlets to bike shorts and eventually, created one-piece uniforms for the few triathletes racing Ironman at the time. A few days before the big race, an Austrian woman walked in her little shop, saw a beautiful one-piece suit on the wall, pointed to it and in a heavy accent, said, “I want that suit,” which sounded more like, “I vant dat zoot!” And that’s how ZOOT was born.
