Run for Aspins is one of our long time passion projects. We aim to raise funds and awareness for the care of “mga aso at pusang pinoy” through fun, uniting events for dog/cat owners and dog/cat lovers alike! For its 3rd reiteration, we’re partnering with volunteer group I AM SCOTT (www.facebook.com/IAMSCOTT01) to support their TNVR initiative for aspins (colloquial for asong pinoy) and puspins (colloquial for pusang pinoy).
TNVR means TRAP, NEUTER, VACCINATE, and RETURN. Our animal shelters deal with oversaturated facilities and lack of funds, TNVR is the next best option after housing dogs and cats. It stops stray animals from overpopulating the streets and spreading illnesses among themselves and other species (like us!).
Aspins and Puspins aren’t just no-breed cats and dogs–they’re our cats and dogs, and it’s our duty as an animal-loving community to help them! Each of our 500 projected participants’ race kits include a pledge that goes directly to I AM SCOTT’s TNVR initiatives. IAS provides TNVR, free-of-charge, for the chosen barangay’s stray dogs and cats and funds are badly needed to continue these projects at grass-root level.
Run for Aspins 2019, the Christmas Edition, will be held on December 8, 2019. Assembly and gunstart will be fronting Silver City, Frontera Drive in Ortigas Pasig. These categories have been meticulously chosen to ensure a good representation of advocates:
- 5KM ADVOCATE : This fun run sprint distance is tailor-fit to the runner who loves dogs and cats, but opt not to race with the family pet. First 3 fastest runners, mens and womens division, will be recognized with special prizes.
- 1KM BUDDY: This short distance category is catered to humans who want to try a long walkie (or a runnie?) with their active dog or cat. First to cross the finish line will be declared champion, in 3 sub-categories: small, medium and large-sized pets.
- 500M: This distance will be a pet parade, showcasing what Christmas means to human families with dogs and cats. Highlight of the entire event will be the awarding of special prizes to best Christmas-themed pair (man and pet) and best pets in Santa costume!
*For 1KM and 500M, pets must cross the finish line on their paws, to qualify for prizes.
As we encourage groups and cliques who advocate animal welfare, we shall also be acknowledging the Biggest Delegation to register for the event.
