MILO launches 41st season of the National MILO Marathon

Manila, Philippines, 13 July 2017 – The National MILO Marathon, the country’s most accessible national race, today announced the official opening of its 41st season. The first of the 16 races is set to kick-off in Urdaneta City, Pangasinan on July 16. With new features and race locations added for the fresh cycle ahead, MILO expects to see around 200,000 participants from across the country compete in 3km, 5km, 10km, 21km, and 42km distance categories.

The National MILO Marathon has long been energizing and inspiring champions for over 40 years and, as such, has been attracting runners of all kinds, from children, rookies, veterans, friends, and families from all over the country and the world. Centered on the theme “Magsama-sama, Tumakbo, Matuto”, this season is driven by values such as discipline, resilience, and determination, which runners can take with them in their journey in life.

“In the National MILO Marathon, we see people from all walks of life who come to run, to learn, and to live. This year, we shine the spotlight on the runners who are learning along the way and taking hese lessons beyond the finish line to shape their lives,” said Robbie De Vera, MILO Philippines Sports Executive.

New roads, new features

Three new areas, Urdaneta, Laoag and Roxas cities, are added in this year’s 16-leg tourney. The additional locations will provide runners with new and exciting challenges, showcasing the great running experience the National MILO Marathon is known for.

“We at MILO make it a mission to engage more Filipinos in adapting active and healthy lifestyles, and that is what the National MILO Marathon is all about. By adding more key cities, we will be able to reach more champions and hopefully inspire them to achieve new heights, be it in sports or in life. We look forward to seeing our champions!” added De Vera.

Following the success of the Iloilo finale last year, the National MILO Marathon will be staging its final race in Cebu City on December 3rd. This is the second time for Visayas to host the much-anticipated culminating event, and the third time to be held outside of Metro Manila. “We are excited to be fielding the National Finals in Cebu, where the sporting landscape is more invigorating than ever,” said Ricky Ballesteros, Organizer of the National MILO Marathon National Finals. “Our team is on its way to prepare for the biggest race of the season, so expect for this year’s finale to be grander and bolder.”

To encourage runners to celebrate their victories, MILO will debut the new Age Group Category in the National Finals. The Age Group Category is an added feature in the 21K and 42K distance races, that lets participants track and compare their performance with other runners in similar age groups. The new feature intends to motivate runners in reaching their personal goals and attract more contenders to the higher categories.

More than a staunch advocate of Philippine sports and Filipino athletes, the National MILO Marathon is also a platform that empowers children nationwide. For the past 7 years, the National MILO Marathon’s Help Give Shoes advocacy, in partnership with Department of Education, has inspired 70,000 aspiring athletes to fulfill their dreams by donating brand new pairs of running shoes. This year, the Help Give Shoes advocacy will be donating 5,000 pairs to underprivileged school children.

The series will start in Urdaneta on July 16, which expects around 10,000 runners. Following the pilot race, the National MILO Marathon will continue in Laoag (July 23), Metro Manila (July 30), Angeles (August 6), Tarlac (August 13), Naga (August 27), Lucena (September 03),  Lipa (September 10), Tagbilaran (September 24), Roxas (October 1), Iloilo (October 8), General Santos (October 15),  Davao (October 22), Butuan (November 12), and Cagayan De Oro (November 19). The National Finals in Cebu City will be on December 3.

The 41st National MILO Marathon is endorsed by the Philippine Sports Commission, Philippine Olympic Committee, Department of Education, the Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association, and the International Association of Athletics Federations – Association of International Marathons and Distance Races. The National MILO Marathon is in partnership with Salonpas, and supported by Garmin, Hisense, Manila Bulletin, Maynilad and Walter Mart Supermarket.

More than 40,000 runners expected to break record attendance at the 38th National MILO Marathon Manila Leg

Manila, Philippines, 23 July 2014 – The country’s biggest and most prestigious footrace will once again welcome children, students, aspiring runners and professional athletes to its running routes as the 38th National MILO Marathon takes its act to Manila for its fifth qualifying leg on July 27 at the SM Mall of Asia grounds, Pasay City. With more than 40,000 participants expected to run on Sunday, another historic record of the most number of runners in a single race is anticipated to be achieved.

The winners of the 42K division race will be awarded a cash prize of Php 50,000 and a trophy, while the victors of the 21K division will receive a cash prize of Php 10,000 and a trophy. Runners who finish within the specified age-bracket and cut-off time per division will also receive a coveted slot in the National Finals on December 7.

Elite runners, including former National MILO Marathon Queens Jho-an Banayag, Mary Grace Delos Santos and Aileen Tolentino, and Philippine National Games champion Rafael Poliquit, are raring to go head-to-head in the esteemed international race event for a chance to be crowned the National MILO Marathon King and Queen. In line with MILO’s steadfast commitment in enhancing the holistic development of Filipino athletes, the 38th National MILO Marathon MILO King and Queen will be sent by MILO to Japan to showcase the Filipinos’ resilience, strength and excellence as they compete in the Tokyo Marathon in 2015. The Tokyo Marathon is one of the six grand prix races in the world, joining Berlin, Boston, Chicago, New York, and London in the illustrious list of major international marathons.

Young racers will also join in the fun in the 3K and 5K divisions. Celebrity running enthusiasts are also expected to participate in the running events, including MILO R2 APEX Running School founder and The Biggest Loser Philippines coach Jim Saret, his wife and fellow coach Toni Saret, and 2014 The Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition: Doubles contestants Ralph David Du, Yves Christian Du, Patricia Castillo, Bryan Castillo, Francis Asis, Mark Andrew Mavrides, Jepoy Arcilla, Tristan Nueva, Carl Lazaro, Cayen Lazaro, Patricia Martinez and Ma. Victoria Joy Nebreja.

To further the support for young Filipino talents, MILO will provide 16,000 underprivileged youth with brand new running shoes this year to reach the 50,000 mark through the Help Give Shoes advocacy. Help Give Shoes aims make the donation to students in Yolanda-hit cities, particularly Tacloban, Ormoc, and Eastern Samar.

“We are very pleased that the selected recipients of the Help Give Shoes advocacy for this year are our aspiring runners from the Yolanda-hit areas. With the contributions of the National MILO Marathon runners, we will be able to give these children a ray of hope and pave the way for them to continue cultivating their passion for sports,” said Andrew Neri, MILO Sports Marketing Manager. “We aim to help these kids slowly heal from the devastation that the typhoon brought in, raise their spirits, and inspire them to carry on striving for their dreams.”

The gun start for participants of the 42K run is at 3:00AM, the 21K run at 4:30AM, 10K run at 5:00AM, 5K run at 5:35AM and the 3K run at 5:30AM. The starting line will be adjacent to the finish line at the Seaside Boulevard of SM MOA.

The 38th National MILO Marathon is made possible by Timex, the Bayview Park Hotel Manila, ASICS, Lenovo, Manila Bulletin and Gatorade, along with endorsements from the Department of Education, Philippine Sports Commission and the Philippine Olympic Committee.

Alaska is focusing on building a habit in milk drinking and what better way to do it is to promote milk drinking during breakfast. Breakfast with Alaska milk is a way to take in good nutrition in the morning paving a way for consumers to start their day right. At 7:30am on June 1, every participant from Manila, Baguio, Cebu, and Davao will get food items (champorado, pandesal, cereals) and beverage (powdered) made with Alaska milk to participate in the 1st ever Alaska Gatas for Breakfast. This movement encourages everyone to start the day right with a nutritious breakfast with Alaska Milk. On top of milk drinking, Alaska also encourages people to eat nutritious breakfast by adding milk on food. Popular Pinoy breakfast, such as champorado and pandesal partnered with Alaska Evap and Condensed milk makes it more nutritious.

There will be an online promo where individuals at home can take part in the celebration by uploading a self-photo with milk mustache with a personal message on why they love milk or a pledge to a healthy lifestyle with milk. An app will be developed to collate all the photos and those who will join should include the hashtags: #alaskaworldmilkday & #gatasforbreakfast.
